Infrastructure + Capital Planning
Infrastructure across the US has fallen into disrepair and become vulnerable to breakdowns after years of disinvestment. Climate change is accelerating the decline of our infrastructure, from sinkholes after a flooding event to power grids failing during a heatwave. Working with local governments and coalitions, our research highlights regulatory strategies for embedding climate risk information into the capital planning process. This work helps to ensure that coastal cities can future-proof the critical infrastructure that sustains their communities.

Building Better: Integrating Climate Preparedness into Capital Planning in the Puget Sound
The first in a series exploring how the Puget Sound is working to ensure climate resilience is funded and implemented. The open questions are the ones every jurisdiction eventually runs into: who actually has the authority to act on climate risk, how you build the business case before resilience gets quietly engineered out, and how to tell the difference between a plan that holds up and one that just looks good on paper.
