CLIMATE RELOCATION CONSORTIUM

Urban Ocean Lab is developing a Climate Relocation Consortium: A two-year initiative, set to launch in 2024, that convenes coastal city governments, community-based organizations, and practitioners to create justice-centered policy solutions for climate-driven relocation in U.S. coastal cities.

Building upon the success of the Ocean Justice Forum as a model for developing a consensus-based policy platform, the Climate Relocation Consortium seeks to bridge the gap between the current practice of climate-driven relocation and its potential for transformative adaptation.

To do so, the Consortium will focus on housing security and mobility, land use and conservation, and innovative finance, prioritizing policies that redress systemic inequalities, create opportunities for upward mobility, and foster multi-generational resilience, particularly for communities of color, immigrants, and other populations historically excluded from receiving federal relocation assistance.
